  1. Don’t be tempted to lift the lid of your slow cooker to smell or stir your dish, you’ll lose heat, moisture and flavour.

  3. Love slow cooking but hate cleaning up afterwards? Try using a slow cooker liner.
  4. Making a beef stew in your slow cooker and want a deeper richer flavour? Try stirring in a yeast extract, like marmite.
  5. In most instances, cooking using the low setting will take about twice as long as cooking on the high setting.
  6. To avoid onions becoming tough in a slow cooker, lightly fry them until golden before you add to the pot.
  7. Browning your meat isn’t always necessary when cooking over longer periods, but if you have the time to do it, it can enhance the flavour of the end result.
